Design standards for most American Parks Departments are influenced by operational costs and user expectations, which, unfortunately, have resulted in high-carbon landscape design decisions.
During this Peer Conversation, discussion leaders will review studies from newly constructed parks and share educational resources and open-source tools to help parks departments develop low-carbon material specifications. Participants will engage in comparative discussions of pavements, soil management, foundations, drainage, safety surfaces, and planting procurement and compare relative capital expenses and operations requirements. The session will also ask attendees to consider how decarbonizing design strategies may change or challenge maintenance expectations and priorities.
