Joaquín Torres was elected as SF’s Assessor-Recorder in February 2022. Prior election, Torres served as Director of the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development and led citywide efforts to mitigate economic hardships on businesses and workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout his public service, Torres collaboratively leveraged resources across City departments to advance opportunities for all, expanding support for small businesses and workers, building capacity and stability for locally rooted nonprofits, and maximizing equitable economic and social impact for the benefit of communities, residents, businesses, and neighborhoods.
Torres is also the President of the SF Housing Authority Commission, former member of the Executive Committee and Equity Advisory Council for the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR), and served as a founding trustee of the Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy.
